RAS #28 - Interview with Kevin MacLeod

Download | Duration: 00:43:27

This week we have a double feature. We continue Oktoberfest with another great horror story. But before we go there, we will meet Kevin MacLeod. I get a lot of emails about the music used on the podcast and I thought it was high time that we actually talk to the man behind it. I was able to sit down with Kevin for a few minutes this past week. We talked a bit about the theme song for the podcast (Constancy Part Three) and the role of the composer in moving a story along. Very interesting subject and I think you will enjoy it. If you have not done so you should check out Kevin’s site. If you want to see a list of Kevin accomplishments head on over to the Internet Movie Database.

Our story for the week is a particularly creepy one called Evening Primrose. It comes from the great OTR series Escape. It is listed as one of the ten best horror dramas of the golden age of radio. It tells the story of man who grows tired of living paycheck to paycheck and decides to check out. You will never go to a department store and feel safe ever again. It aired on Sep 12, 1948.

Very interesting interview with Kevin. It was good to hear just how and why music is added to a production. You always knew it was there and it sounds strange without it. Brian

I discovered Kevin and Incompetech.com about a year and a half ago and have never before or since found music so user-friendly as Kevin's. It was just last week that I started seeing his music and name everywhere, from commercials to movies. I produce an audio drama and have noticed his name credited in so many others like mine. Kevin is so right... the current music licensing system is so incredibly flawed, so confusing and expensive (why charge me so much when I need a lawyer to decipher where when and how I can use it). I ran across his name again today on Vimeo's new video music licensing site, and though the pricing structure is simple (1.99 for individual, 98.00 for commercial), the usage terms are still confusing. One good thing is they include free CC pieces (the reason Kevin showed up so much).
Finding Vimeo's licensing site then prompted me to re-investigate Kevin with a Google search, which brought me to your site and another great discovery. I love OTR, your interview with Kevin was great, your voice is very easy on the ears, and I like your style. You've gained another listener and fan, thanks to Kevin.
